The 75th Anniversary of the American Dream

Excerpts of a letter from Michael Moore

On this day 25 years ago, in 1987, a group of autoworkers came together on the lawn of General Motors’ soon-to-be-closed Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac assembly plant to raise their voices against the closing – and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Great Flint Sit-Down Strike, which had begun at that very factory.

Ronald A. Jordan 1949-2012

Ron Jordan, Region 3 Vice President of ATU Local 1700 and a 37-year veteran of Greyhound, passed away on Jan. 27 after a long, courageous fight against cancer.

Ron began driving for Greyhound in 1974 after serving in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. He was a prominent activist in the 1983 and 1990 strikes, and became a union steward soon after Local 1700 was formed in 1994. He was first elected Region 3 Vice President in 1999.

Extraboard Agreements Reached

Welcome and thank you for visiting the new Local 1700 website. This site has many new features and improvements and is the single most effective tool in 1700's communication arsenal. Through this site you can receive news and updates important to you from both the union and from mainstream media outlets.

Also, once you are logged in you will gain access to the Contracts section of the site where you can view the unions current contracts and bylaws. Along with this you can also participate in the Member Forums. Here you can communicate with Local 1700 members across the country. Because ours is a national local, this is one way in which we can close the distance gap between our fellow union brothers and sisters.
