Sammie Howard, Jr.
Mr. Howard’s career with Greyhound Lines, Inc. began as an Extra Board Driver in May 1996. His dedication and leadership skills gained him the distinction of Chief Shop Steward, Atlanta, Georgia in June 2002. Mr. Howard has served on the Run Committee and Contract Action Committee. He has also had the opportunity to serve as the Union liaison with the Driver Training School, as well as spearhead the Union’s organization and contract project of terminal employees.
Mr. Howard honorably served the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. His twenty-year career in the military included service with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, 101th Ordinance Battalion, and U.S. Army Recruiting Command. Mr. Howard was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3OLC), and the Army Recruiter Ring.
Mr. Howard patterned his leadership style after the motto “Don’t let it happen, Make it happen”.
Mr. Howard is a longtime member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. He and his wife along with their five children and three grandchildren reside in Gwinnett County.
