Region 4
OBAMA for PRESIDENT!
"We're ready to take the offense for organized labor. It's time we have a President who didn't choke saying the word 'union.' We need to strengthen our unions by letting them do what they do best --- organize our workers. If a majority of workers want a union, they should get a union. It's that simple. We need to stand up to the business lobby that's been getting their friends in Congress and in the White House to block card check. That's why I was one of the leaders fighting to pass the Employee Free Choice Act. That's why I'm fighting for it in the Senate. And that's why we'll make it the law of the land when I'm President." Rosters Merged with Work by Location
The tables under these headings present another way of looking at the driver rosters of those locations where merging the rosters is proposed than the way the information was shown in Solidarity Road. These tables show Greyound drivers and the annual wages of the jobs in each location in black merged with the subsidiary company's drivers and jobs in red. Subsidiary locations in which there are no Greyhound drivers simply show all the drivers and the work as they are now in red. »
MLK Observance in Memphis
January 17-21, 2008, the AFL-CIO held the Dr. Martin Luthur King Jr. Holiday Observance in Memphis, TN. Most people know that King was assassinated in Memphis, but may not actually realize that April 4, 2008 will be 40 years since the death of Martin Luthur King Jr. We should remember why he died. King died fighting for the rights of Memphis' sanitation workers. The 1300 workers demanded higher wages, the right to join a union and respect Issues of Concern
There are many issues that we have within the work force, but the number one issue is safety. When a driver reports to work for an assignment and when customers board the buses, we all think of our safety. It is seldom that schedules are wanded to detect items that should not be on board a bus. The only security that the driver has is a gate, used to separate a potential problem passenger from the driver. As we all know, the gate isn't working. Many drivers have been attacked and pinned in with the gate. Weingarten Rights
Employees have Weingarten rights only during investigatory interviews: An investigatory interview occurs when a supervisor questions an employee to obtain information which could be used as a basis for discipline or asks an employee to defend his/her conduct. If an employee has reasonable belief that discipline may result from what he/she says, the employee has the right to request union representation. Management is not required to inform the employee of his/her Weingarten rights, it is the employees responsibility to know and request. |
