James W. Kennedy first came to work as a Greyhound driver out of Balitmore in 1988. Before driving for Greyhound, he served as a shop steward in Local 1784 of the Machinists Union. He quickly became a steward in Local 1700 after the settlement of the strike of 1990-1993. He has served as a delegate to the Baltimore Central Labor Council. In 1999 he was appointed Chief Shop Steward for Washington, DC, a position he held for 9 years until being elected as Region 1 Vice President in 2004.
