Communications - Contract Negotiations are Next Week!

Local 1700's picture

As most of you know, next week ATU 1700's Executive Board will begin contract negotioations with Greyhound.  In preperation, we have been ramping up our communications tools so that we can keep all members informed.  As of now we have multiple ways to get our message out to you, below I will describe some of them in detail:

1) ROADKILL Hotline

As most of you know you can always dial into to the ROADKILL hotline for the latest news regarding the union.  The number is 1-888-ROADKIL and is toll free.  Once dialed in you can hear a voice message recorded by president, Bruce Hamilton regarding current Local 1700 news.  During contract negotiations ROADKILL will updated more frequently to keep members fully informed.

2) ATU1700.org

In addition to the ROADKILL hotline the text from these messages will be posted on the homepage of our website under the "Latest News" section - this is hard to miss, its dead center at the top of the web page.  There you can read the text of the Roadkill and also comment on the story.  These comments will be viewable by other readers of the story.

3) Contract Action Committee Network (CAC) - Email Alerts

Over the past 6 weeks or so I've been entering the email addresses of all of the members who have filled out a form to join the Contract Action Committee.  This committee is comprised of the Local 1700 shop stewards in all work locations and any members who have joined the CAC.  We will be sending out email alerts to the CAC periodically throughout negotiations.

4) Contract Action Committee Network (CAC) - SMS text message alerts

Along with the email alerts we will be sending SMS text messages directly to members cell phones.  We will reserve these messages for more urgent matters or those that require direct action by the CAC.  To assure that you are recieving these message make sure that you have updated your cell phone number with our national office.  You can email your cell phone number to me at luke.franco@atu1700.org .  If you would like to opt out of these messages send me a message and I will remove you from the list.

5) ATU1700.org Membership Forums

This is the area of the site where you can make your voice heard.  You can post forum posts regarding contract issues and also comment on other members posts.  These comments can then be viewed by all members in the forums.  The forums have recently seen a spike in usership but we still have a long way to go to make this a thriving online community of Local 1700 members.  Start by making a post today.

That's all for now, stay tuned for Contract Negotioation updates.
