ATU Local 1700 has tried many times to settle a long-running dispute with Greyhound over when regular run drivers are paid run guarantee. We have narrowed the question down to two basic types of claims:
- Drivers who, through no fault of their own, lack sufficient DOT hours to pull their run on the next trip out after arriving late at their home terminal.
- Drivers who, also through no fault of their own, run out of hours on their 70 and cannot pull the next portion of their run.
The company has not agreed to settle either type of claim in a way that is fair to drivers, so the union will next state our case before an impartial arbitrator. We have agreed to arbitrate one grievance on each issue and hold the others in abeyance pending the result.
As Solidarity Road goes to press, a date has still not been scheduled for a hearing on the first issue. That does not mean that the issue has gone away. Drivers whose run guarantee claims are denied should continue filing grievances. As soon as a hearing is set we will announce the date on Roadkill and the website.
