Eboard member since: 1999 ATU 1700 member since: 1971 Bruce Hamilton has been a union activist at Greyhound for three decades. He has been involved in all of the big battles, from deregulation of the intercity bus industry to the 1983 strike, to the struggle to preserve the terminal workers’ jobs, to the horrific strike of 1990-1993. He initiated rank and file organizations, served on local union committees and the national bylaws committee, served as Chief Shop Steward in New York City, delegate to the New York City Central Labor Council, Region 1 Vice President, Pension Trustee and Health and Welfare Trustee, and, since January 2005, served as President of National Local 1700. Even though Bruce has accumulated a huge amount of union experience serving in official union positions, he has never accepted the status quo. He led contract negotiations that produced the best contract for Greyhound drivers and mechanics in 30 years, but his sights are set on making much greater gains in the next three years.»
