Bill White Announces His Retirement

Region 2 Vice President Bill White has announced that he will be stepping down at the end of this month.  Bill is the longest continually-serving member of the Local 1700 Executive Board.  He has served as Region 2 Vice President since January 1, 2002.

Bill joined Greyhound in June of 1973, working the extraboard for over 15 years in Knoxville, Atlanta, Macon, Lexington, and Cincinnati. He served as shop steward from 1982 until 1985 and again from 1991 until 1998.  In 1997 he served on the union’s first By-Law Committee, playing a major role in developing the current Local 1700 by-laws.

Prior to joining Greyhound, Bill served in the US Air Force from 1965 till 1971 in administration and personnel affairs with tours of duty in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Okinawa.

Bill's intention is to spend time with his family.  All of us on the executive board and all Local 1700 members wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.

Bill firmly believes that he leaves Region 2 and the Local 1700 Executive Board in good hands with the appointment of Sammie Howard to succeed him.
